Harmany Grazing Muzzle

The Harmany Grazing Muzzle was designed by leading holistic veterinarian, Dr Joyce Harman.  It is engineered to have more breathing space than conventional muzzles, is easy to keep clean and ideal for those equines who struggle to maintain a normal, healthy bodyweight.

Horses are designed to graze 20 hours a day, and rest only 4 hours. However, in our modern rich pastures, horses and ponies can easily become obese with only a few hours of grazing per day. This leads to serious health problems.  Don’t overgraze.  Most horse owners don’t realise that the greatest concentration of sugar in grass lies in the three inches closest to the ground.  If you allow your horse to overgraze, it's getting way more than its fair share of sugar.  Watch the weather. Though most owners are careful in Spring and early Summer when grass growth is most intense, the weather plays a large role in the sugar content of the grass.

 Keep these things in mind:

• Typically, your horse is safest with the standard hot, dry weather that’s common in the mid-late summer months.
• Grass that’s stressed (either overgrazed or in a drought) will be high in sugar.
• Rain leads to rapid plant growth (and increased sugar content), particularly after a drought.
• Unseasonably cool temperatures (either a dip in the evening or several days of much below-average temperatures) will increase sugar content in grass.
• On the contrary, tall, coarse grass is less rich, just be mindful because a horse can get much more with each bite.
