Licorice ( Glycyrrhiza glabra) has been used for both humans and animals for over 3,000 years. Its main active constituent glycyrrhizin is responsible for the sweet taste and is over fifty times sweeter than sugar! Up until the 1940s licorice was cultivated extensively in the north of England, this accounts for the famous Pontefract Cakes, a soft coin-shaped licorice sweet that was named after the Yorkshire town in the UK where they were made.
To make an Eyebright wash put approximately 10g of Eyebright dried herb in a small saucepan with a lid, add 200ml of cold water, bring slowly to the boil, and simmer gently for 3 to 4 minutes, keeping the lid on the saucepan. Remove from the heat, and leave to cool, once cooled the liquid can be strained. To use soak cotton pads in the eyebright "tea". Don't waste the strained herb this can be given to your horse. Any unused wash can be put into a closed jam jar and kept for a couple of days in the fridge.

My boy was having some respiratory problems whilst stabled each night in the winter and particularly after eating hay. Soaking hay did not work and as we entered the summer the problems persisted. After checking out all products available I tried this after seeing some online threads about stabled horses prone to dust, hay allergies and my word what a difference! As soon as I started using it, he improved. I now have my fit healthy boy back and I will be keeping him on this, it is cheaper than the vet!

I am using this supplement for my dog (after consulting with Hilton Herbs to check it can be used for dogs as well as horses). Back in December he was coughing so I began using this supplement immediately and have continued to use it since. This is definitely helping him, as his breathing has steadily improved since and his cough & has not got any worse and in some ways actually seems a bit better. I mix the liquid in natural yogurt for him before his dinner and he absolutely love it - as soon as he hears me shake the bottle, he is standing behind me from wherever he was in the house! Would absolutely recommend this supplement!

I have a horse with respiratory problems, everything the vet had prescribed didn’t work at all with him (steroids, Ventipulmin) I have tried various different supplements with him and this is truly the only one which has worked! I have only been giving it to him for 2 weeks, but I have already seen a huge improvement, and will continue to use this every day. It may have saved my ponies life so I recommend it to anyone who owns a horse with respiratory problems because it really has helped my pony more than I could ever have dreamed!!

My 21 year old cob developed some airway sensitivity last year and I had struggled to find a product that made a difference. Was then recommended thIs product by my yard owner who used to use years ago. Have purchased the liquid form as my horse just knows when something has been added to his feed and use syringe to give. Quite bitter taste but nothing a piece of apple doesn't resolve! Started using two weeks ago at which point he was coughing fair bit on trotting/cantering and never quite being clear of it at end of ride but thankfully no cough at rest. Ride around farmland with pollen count being high. Since starting this he has vastly improved. Still a little tickle occasionally but clears. Planning to use through winter too and hope it continues to support him then too. Massive thank you from us both!
