Scullcap - Scutellaria laterifolia

  • Common names: Skullcap, Virginian Scullcap, Helmet Flower, Mad-dog Scullcap, Hoodwort, Quaker Bonnet, Madweed.
  • Habitat: USA.
  • Part used: Aerial parts.
  • Actions of Scullcap: Sedative, nervine, anti-convulsant, tonic, antispasmodic, slightly astringent.

Scullcap is ideal for nervous stress or tension, and hysteria. In the past it has been found to be effective for epilepsy in both humans and dogs, and was regarded as a cure for rabies. The herb combines well with Valerian.
