Nerves & Hormones Information

We all love to see a well-behaved dog, listening attentively to its owner’s voice, under control, relaxed and ready to do "its master’s bidding". This is what we all strive for with our dogs, an obedient, happy, healthy dog that is confident and secure in its position in the 'family pack’.

Unfortunately for many reasons this ideal is not always achieved. As owners, we can inadvertently add to the stresses we place on our pets with incorrect feeding, insufficient exercise, poor or conflicting training messages, along with the stresses of showing, competition and travelling. It's no wonder that despite our best efforts our dogs may occasionally become stressed, anxious, tense and nervous or display unpredictable behaviour.

The UK is a country known for its love of animals, but despite this, every year thousands of dogs are abused, abandoned, or housed in appalling conditions. The fortunate ones find their way to one of the excellent charities or rescue centres around the country. From these centres they can be re-homed to a new and caring owner who will hopefully be able to restore the poor animals trust in humans.

Breeding can also bring its own set of concerns, with seasonal hormonal changes which may ultimately affect coat condition,  breeding, pregnancy, whelping, nursing and weaning.

Our range of dried and liquid herbal canine supplements, homeopathics, sprays and Bach Flower essences will help you support your pet, whether it is highly strung, nervous, over-exciteable, hormonal, a show animal with competition nerves, a pregnant bitch or a rescue case.

Pregant women in  hospital labour wards used to be given Raspberry leaf tea prior to giving birth. Hilary Self our Medical Herbalist's mother had raspberry tea when she was giving birth to Hilary, perhaps it was this that got Hilary started down the road of herbal medicine all those years ago!
